IN THE CITY

light spills
through the pane glass window
onto the sidewalk
casting streaks of luminescence
onto the dark faces
of passerby's
Asleep
people in a waking sleep
shuffle through the streets
of a sleepless city
The moon shines
high above the stars
of the skyscrapers
but invisible to the internal eyes
of the waking dead
The cool breeze lifts off of
the waters surface
and slips quietly through the streets
searching
finding
the wisps that have fallen loose
from the girl's hair
lightly flipping them
across her iridescent eyes
and tangling them in her eyelashes
trying to blind her
from seeing the glow
of the pregnant moon
